This was my first run back after the 100km de la Somme and I was looking to take it easy. I didn’t want to run stairs, hills, or sprint too fast – this was all about easing back into it. The Lyon Running Club Wednesday night run was the perfect place to get started again as it is usually a nice 10km run at an easy pace.
Luckily, this was exactly what was in store tonight.
We set off from the Place des Celestins and trundled through the Presque Isle for a short while before turning over the bridge and crossing into the 7th arrondissement of Lyon. We made a loop and – somehow – seemed to hit every green light, then dropped onto the berges and settled in for the zone defi of the night.
Luka, who was leading the run, set us the task of a 400m sprint between two bridges and then, because he felt like it, a second 300m section to the bridge after. I didn’t push very hard the first time but I gave it a little more the second time around and finished next to my buddy Thierry in the middle of the pack.
We moved back up to the road, crossed over into the center again, and headed into the Pentes. The route was familiar as it basically took us past our old apartment, then we dropped onto the other side of the hill, took a photo on some colorful stairs, and dropped down into the center to the end of the run: a bar in the 1st arrondissement.
I wasn’t going to the bar (for rather obvious reasons…) so I turned for home, closed out my 10K, and felt satisfied with the return to running once again.
