This week is a busy one for me with work, family, and home life conspiring to leave me little time to get much running in. With less than three weeks to go until the Saint-Fons 6 Hour race, I’m in the final part of my preparation and heading towards an eventual three or four day taper before the big day.
This week I am aiming to get three runs in: two long, one short.
The short one will be tomorrow evening. Jamie has his post-school fencing class on a Tuesday afternoon and finished at 6pm. While Cécile will be able to drop him off, I will be picking him which leaves me about an hour between finishing work and collecting Jamie to head home for dinner. My plan is to try and fit in an hour of running in this time, hopefully pushing out 10 to 12km at a steady pace.
The first of the long runs will be on Wednesday evening when I’ll leave running from work. Normally I would meet up with the Lyon Running Club but I think I’ll skip it this week so as to not slow down too much while still getting the distance in. The goal here will be a nice round 20km, maybe up to 25km if I am not feeling too tired after a long day in the office.
The third run of the week and the second long run will be on Saturday. Cécile is working this Saturday and so I’ll take advantage of the alone time (and avoid annoying her too much) by heading out for a run on Saturday morning. I won’t be leaving too early and the goal will be about four hours of movement, including some walking breaks and uphills. I haven’t really decided where I’ll head but I’m considering either heading up onto the Mont D’Or or, alternatively, heading out to Miribel for some exploration of the trails at the Grande Parc there.
All in all I should get 7 to 8 hours on my feet this week training, and ten follow it up with a final week of keeping fitness up before the taper the week after. Hopefully this will have me in reasonable shape for the Saint-Fons race despite the injuries I’ve had over the last couple of months, and I’ll be ready to bring home the 60km distance I’m aiming for.
